The Reflections of Our Imagined Realities

Diving into the surrealistic world(s) of Nattakorn Choonhavan through his series of hand-crafted symbolic jewelry, one may find themselves in a state of flux as the works invite audience into the psychological exploration of the parallel worlds. For this exhibition, the artist examines his photographic journey which often searches for the reflective distortion of realities. The accidental illusions in his film photography are pathways to imagine the visualization of the other metaphysical worlds. The artist then immerses himself into the new imaginative myth(s) inspired by his photography work interwoven with the emblematic armors and tools in Greek mythology, the methods of Japanese’s “Kintsugi” and Buddhism’s philosophical term “Maya”. As a result of interlacing these diverse metaphors into a new spiritual interpretation, the artist fills the exhibition space with large and small installations of his brass and sterling silver pieces accessorized with momentous gemstones and organic pearls to narrate the possibilities of the unveiled truths happening inside the minds of his audience.
‘The Reflections of our Imagined Realities’ at Saratta Space marks Nattakorn’s first solo exhibition where its concept is an expansion of his creative practice at Middle M. For this show, Nattakorn has extended his specialization of small jewelries into grander installations with the exquisite use of precious and valuable materials such as silver, brass, pearls and gem stones. These works signify a milestone for Nattakorn’s career as an emerging artist working with jewelries.
